Alexander Kiene was most recently head coach at traditional German club Hessen Kassel. Born in Lower Saxony, he previously had spells at Preußen Hameln, OSV Hannover and Arminia Hannover, where he coached teams that won the championship and promotion. This was followed by further engagements in the regional league at BSV Rehden, TSV Havelse and VfB Oldenburg. Kiene led Rehden from the relegation zone in the winter break to secure relegation, while he coached TSV Havelse to the top flight of the Regionalliga Nord. In the 2020/2021 season, Kiene was head coach in the second Austrian Bundesliga and was therefore able to gain valuable international experience as a coach.

As a strategist and developer, he wants to give clubs a sporting identity and take their team and individual players to the next level.

Alexander Kiene has been travelling around the Bundesliga and the academies since 2022 and, in his role as a scout, has scrutinised numerous players for professional football.

Alexander Kiene is an expert for the second Bundesliga and a guest in various media and podcast formats on the subject of football and tactics.

Since training as a football coach, Alexander Kiene has worked as a speaker at football events. His personality, communication and rhetoric help him to bring football topics closer to listeners in terms of content and emotion.

Alexander Kiene spoke with Leon Holkenbrink about his sporting career, from youth development to international professional soccer, his experiences in different leagues and countries, his former work with German national players Niclas Füllkrug and Deniz Undav, and his views on the identity and culture of clubs.
